Some years ago Main Street was declared dead, but those doomsayers need to visit New Jersey. From north to south, in all the 21 counties, Main Street is flourishing. I've visited Main Streets in 178 cities, in 14 countries, and counting. What I learned is that WE and Main Street are intertwined and interdependent. Our lives are linked in an infinite number of ways.

Root Shock in Rio
I recently read a review of my book, Root Shock: How Tearing Up City Neighborhoods Hurts America and What We Can Do About It. Written by David Robertson, and published in the online Rio On Watch, it examined the issues and ideas in Root Shock for their relevance to understanding displacement in Rio. Absolutely fascinating!
Just learning about you tonight.
ReplyDeleteDr. Fullilove, I am so pleased to be introduced to your work by a dear and thoughtful community activist and leader, Nancy Nadel, who posted a very brief recommendation on our West Oakland NextDoor.com discussion site. Our community is famously in the throes of an aggressive wave of displacement and I will eager seek an opportunities to read your books as well as this blog, because one thing Oaklanders don't see so clearly is how much the shift in housing ownership has occurred (to a slightly lesser degree in hundreds, of cities nationally, not even discussing internationally)
I didn´t see an email address but would like to be in touch directly if you would be so kind as to send it to hhhduffy@yahoo.com.
well deserved Mindy
